Nice Swim

Today was a great day for swimming. It was a nice easy one. Just swimming for an hour with no training drills in my mind. Did a couple a quick 100yard fast swims, a few drills, and the rest of the time swimming casually. The best part was I swam with my sister. Thanks Vicki for making the swim fun!! Lets do it again.Synchronized swimmers Vector Clip Art graphic

double trouble April 28,2011

Well I thought if I am going to have to do 2 exercises a day and they dont have to be done back to back, I figured I could get up early this morning and do my run. Well I woke up at 5am and it was pitch black out and raining. Thank you Lord!! but then when I got home from work I was in for a rude awakening. I had to run and swim sometimes between 4pm and bedtime which is usually around 8pm. yes I am pathetic. I go to bed at 8pm most days. The sun came out just in time for me to start my run at 4:15pm. I got back home around 5pm and sat to rest. I had a quick drink of juice and checked the pool schedule. I thought the swim was at 8pm but it was at 6pm, so off to the pool I went and did an awesome workout for 45 minutes. I was pumped. I did both exercises in both days, plus work, and to top it off, I showed came home and got the hubby and off to Acapolcos for dinner and drinks by 7:30. Well Guess what, I didnt make it to bed by 8pm that night, but I was in bed by 9:30p. Totally exausted!! but felt great!!

Nice easy bike!!

Ok so I didnt jump right back in the saddle Monday and Tues, but you can blame work for that!! Crazy week with out getting out before 7pm, so today I got out by 4pm came home and quickly went to the gym before I wanted to take a nap instead. Good thing today's schedule was just a quick 40 minute spin at the rpm of between 85-88 . I rode 8.3 miles in that 40 minutes. Not my best time, but my body still aches from that run on Sunday. When does the pain every end!? Ibuprofen is my best friend.

Back in the saddle again!!

Thanks to my 2 motivational bloggers, I am back in the saddle again!! Happy Easter first off. Went to church at 7am and felt good. Came home put together my ham and fixins, downloaded some new songs on my phone, went outside, dusted off my legs and off I went. With no real direction on how far I was going to run, I knew I wanted to do more than my usual mile. I have been talking to some girls in work whom we are all going to run a 5k for Bridgeport Hospital on May 29th so I figure I better at least attempt that.. I was out for around 50 min, and felt I did real good. When I came home I did my usual. I took the car out and mapped my run. whooohooo. It turned out to be exactly 3.1 miles. a 5k.!! I think the big guy upstairs was watching me. I felt so good when I was done. Now we start the next 20 weeks of training and I am a bit nervous about it. I hope I will have time, no I wont say I hope I will have time. I have to Make the time. but it will be a challange. Keep the motivational blogs coming my way!! Look out Washington DC, here we come!!!Bucking Horse clip art

Somebody light a fire under my butt!

Cartoon of a Tired Woman With Rollers in Her Hair Looking in the Mirror clipartIts now Tues. I haven't done any exercise since my great 1.4 mile run on Thurs. Somebody give me inspiration. I am in a funk. Its miserable outside, cold. raw, rainy. I dont want to do anything. Please send help or chocolate!!

Run or happy hour what will it be?

ok so I missed a day,. so Thurs I decided I was going to go to the track to do those fart legs! Well it was a nice day out so off to the track I went. I kinda felt bad for Dana cuz he was home all day by himself recooperating and I had to go practice running. He is so supportive. So off I go to the high school to run these drills that Dawn says is so much easier when done on a track. Well I get to the school and since it was such a nice day every possible outside sport was being played. There was tennis, girls softball, baseball, lacrosse and of course outdoor track and field. Well so much for using that track. So I came home a little dissappointed because I really did want to run. Dana says, why dont you call Dominique and go for happy hour at the watering hole aka Acapolcos.  I couldn't do that with out running. I was motivated to run. I decided to run around the neighborhood. I walked 5 minutes, ran 15 and then walked another 10 min. When I got home I took a quick shower and off to happy hour we went!! But on our way there, I tracked the mileage with a car and was quite happy to find our I ran 1.4 miles in that 15 minutes. I think I was just motivated to get to happy hour!

I think I can, I think I can....

Like the little engine that could, I think I can, I think  I can , I know I can do this triathalon. Today I worked for an hour on a bike routine with one legged drills. I was really worried that it was going to be very hard and that I wasnt going to be able to do it. First I always try to call Dawn to get the motivation I need to do the drill. Once I get the courage to do it, I plug along. It was actually kind of easy. Well maybe not easy, but it made the hour go by really quick.  I rode for 10 min to start, did 2 minutes of really fast riding then did 8 one minute single leg pedaling at a pace of 70 rpm's. I rotated this routine several times for a total time of one hour. I did a total of 11.7 miles. Not too shabby for an old lady!! I'm glad I did this drill early in my day so now I can spend time with Dana and his hurt knee.Maybe I will take a bubble bath tonight!! If I lived in Torrington, I would be sitting in Jean's hot tub!!

I LOVE SWIMMING

I love to swim. Must be because my astrological sign is Pisces. I think I could become a mermaid very easily.Cartoon Mermaid on the Ocean Floor clipartI got to the pool late, and stressed so this was the best stress releaver. I swam hard and long. 50 min with out stopping basically. I did the drills which are always hard when your out of breath. I had a hard time with the kicking drills because I am very slow with the kicking. I can kick and kick and dont think I am going anywere. So at the end I kept swimming laps because I shared the pool with the aquasize girls and I knew when they got out of the pool it would be time for me to get out also. I kept swimming hard so I could get one more lap in. I ended up doing an extra 50 yards so my total for the swim was 1750 yards. Not bad but I was suppose to do 1700 yards in 40 min. and I did 1750 in 50 min. Still my strongest link. I'm working hard Dawn so I can carry you on my back for this part of the race!!

Official hater of running!

I officially hate to run! Yes that's my final answer!! First off my shoes didnt feel right, I think my sock slipped into it which gave me a blister. Second I cant run for nothing. I was at 4.2 and I could only run for like 5 minutes so I ended up putting the speed at 3.5 and walked which I thought was fast for 50 minutes and I only did 2.6 miles. At this pace it will be dark before I make it to the finish line. Help I need motivation. OK Dawn, you better get practicing your running, I am definately hitching a piggy back !ride!Dont fail me now!

On the bike again!!

Well i acomplished what I planned on doing today. I went to the gym and got on that damn stationary bike again. I must say though, I wish Dawn was here training with me. Its quite boring doing it yourself so the next best thing was to text her during my training. Here are a few excerpts from our conversation today.
Me: ok back at the gym trying to get back on track! How bout you?
Dawn: Nope waiting for maintenance to get here to get rid of those disgusting critters! She has carpet bugs! YUK
Me: I have a headache :(
Dawn: I fell on my stairs yesterday and banged my bad knee pretty bad :(
Me: Oh no!! Ice it. remember you have to carry me on your back for the run!!!
Me:  Well I'm 28 minutes into it and boy do my legs or should I say knee hurt:( I'm riding between 70-90 rpm and I'm at 6.22 miles
Dawn:  Keep it up! You can do it! dont think about your knees
Me:  Ok I'll think about my toes!
Dawn:  Ha! think about how awesome your doing!
I love the encouragement.
Me: Oh great the guy next to me just jumped on his bike and is biking 100rpm's Great!
Dawn: dont worry about anyone else, worry about yourself
Me:  I forgot my water
Me: Can you bring me a glass?
Dawn:  Sure be right there!
Well she never showed!
Me: I NEED WATER!!
Me: I'm fading! 9.4 miles, 45 minutes!
Dawn: Stop and get some
Me: Only biking at 59 rpm now
Me: Can't
Dawn: You can do it! Dont stress about your speed, just finish
Me: I wont come back on and my legs are a ball of elastics! Maybe I can bounce to the water!
Dawn: hahah
Me:  5 min till cool down!!
Dawn:  You can do it!!
Me:  COOL DOWN!!! YAHOOO
DAwn: Whooo!!!
Me: Well my workout done! 1 hour 15 minutes, 14 miles. thanks Dawn, I couldnt have done it without you!
Dawn: Nice, I am very proud of you!
Me: When I can actually get off the bike though! Ok I'm off, One leg in front of the other. Just to get to the mat and stretch.
Dawn: Good- you need a good stretch. Nice Job!
Me: OK now I am going for a pedicure!
This workout would not have been completed if it werent for you. Again thank you Dawn, I love you and cant wait till you are  home in June so we can go for a run and bike!!

Were have I been??

OK I got snagged. I guess the downside of having a blog on your training is that when you don't exercise you don't blog. Got me!. I havent exercised all week and I am ashamed of it. Dana had surgery so I have had my mind and body in a different place, still no excuse for not running on the treadmill that is in my basement. and then of course I was going to run today but guess what! the paper said it was rest day!! I have to keep with the paper schedule haha. so tomorrow I am back on track. I hope! I will let you know!

Outdoor Track Training

Once again a beautiful day! Not to be wasted running on a treadmill. I decided to go to the town track and give it a try.Since I had been running 5 min, walking 5 minutes. I decided to try to see how long it would talk to run one mile. Again, Thank God we have a long time to train. It took me 14 minutes to run a mile. and then I walked 1/2 mile and proceeded to do a mile run again. That one took 15 mimutes.
Dawn I hope you are strengthing that back for me to ride on!!!

Outdoors biking April 2,2011

I figured since it was such a beautiful weekend I would ride my lame  bike outside. Its really not in good shape, but I am waiting to get my new one.
piccio-fixed-tandem
Will it make the ride easier? Probably not. So off I went into the wild world of road biking. Let me add that I thought bike lanes were for bikes, not parked cars. Well I guess people that live in Stratford forgot to read that memo. I did a lot of weaving, inbetween parked cars. The wind was tough and it took me a half hour to ride 2 miles. That stinks!! It did a number on my knees as well. I didnt realize what different knee muscles you use on a road bike as compared to a stationary bike at the gym. Well the total ride was an hour with a break mid way. It just so happend my bike ended up at Kathy's house so of course I had to stop and get a drink and chat for a few!! The way home was just as hard. My total bike of an hour and only 4.6 miles. Well thank God we are giving us enough time to train, because its going to take me a long time to get to 26 miles. Especially if I want to finish this race before they close it down for the night.

March 31,2011 Easy Swim

Cartoon Mermaid on the Ocean Floor clipartTheres nothing else I love more is an easy swim. I feel like a fish, just swimming along and letting my thoughts, worries, stresses be released from my body. I swam for just a  half hour because # 1 that was all that was required and #2 because after working 8 hours, going home making dinner and getting to the pool by 6:10pm knowing I was on call for work again from 7pm-11pm, I needed to keep all my fishies  in order. Well luckily it was an easy swim and sure enough when I got out of the pool and checked my phone, my message was-report back to work for 7pm. Just what I really didnt want to do, but I did and actually was energized by the swim to make it through 4 hours more of work! Dawn told me to keep track of my distances. Well here is is.
46 laps in a pool that is 25 yards long!
Dawn this is your job to figure out how long I swam. Your the math genious! lol
I know it is 70 something laps to make a mile so I did a little more than a half mile in that half hour. Not bad but still have a lot of endurance training.
It is different than the swim across the sound because there we swam in 15 minute intervals to make it across the 16 mile sound with a team of 6 swimmers. Here we have to swim solo .9 miles with out stopping.
Does any one own an ipod water cover to use while I swim in training. It gets boring singing to yourself and counting laps!
