Back to training for the marathon. I had a crazy day at work and was in no mood to come home to train, but I was good and decided to go for it. I knew if I stopped today and rested again, I would get in the resting mode and have a hard time getting back into the training. I think we are closing in on about a 100 more days of training. Now that the hospital race is over, I have to start focusing on the Nations' again. So after prograstinating, I figured I would do my run as close to my swim so I wouldn't have time to think about how tired I was and not do both work outs, so I did an easy 2.5 mile run, hahah I can now acturetally say an easy run 2.5 miles, I remember the day when an easy run, meant running to the end of the street! Any way, as soon as I got home and stetched, I had a few minutes to put my feet into my own pool, then got ready and went to flood to swim. When I got there and got inside, big sign, POOL CLOSED ALL WEEK!!! I was so mad. this happens all the time. They are so unreliable. I should have joined the Y.
When I got back home, I called Dawn. SHe had a migraine and didn't get to workout today either. I 'm not sure if that made me feel good that both of us didn't get to work out, or sad that we didn't get to work out. Either way, I always feel better when we talk and either complain or rejoice on something we did or didn't do for our training for the race! I love you Dawn, get rid of those migraines so you can exercise! Only a little while before we can exercise together for a whole week!!!

Keep on running!
OK so I had a short time this morning to get a run in before the lady comes to take our blood for our life insurance policy, so I tried to run the same route I did a few weeks ago, but I wanted to try to make it 3.1 miles. I ran the route and added some more streets to it thinking for sure it would be 3.1 miles. I was so proud of myself because I first was able to run the whole way and second because I did it in 30 minutes. I get home all happy, stretch, etc. and of course jump in my car to do the mileage and when I got home, I had only gone 2.5 miles. Man was I upset. but I guess tomorrow, I will add even more streets to my run. YIKES!!

Day of Rest!
The day after the race, I felt I needed a day off from training. I know I can only rest for one day, but since it was my first day back from vacation, and I had to work 12 hours, I thought it was fit for me to rest!! Back to normal training for the triathalon tomorrow!!

Run Forest,Run...May 29 ,2011

The Bridgeport Hospital 5K run!! Yea I did it. After being so nervous, I got up early, had my usual glass of orange juice and 2 fig newtons, pre run.! Of course I got at the ball field early but quickly met up with my friend and running partner Cory. Of course doctor Harris didn't show up, which actually was good because I was nervous to have to run with him. I found out today, he thought the race was Monday so he missed it. I won"t let him live that one down! Met up with a few people from work I knew and were also running. Since this was my first run, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I am used to running solo, so it was actually kind of hard to run with all those other people around me. Cory and I ran next to each other for while, but then she got in front of me and set a good pace for me. I kept a very short distance behind her the whole way as we ran through Sea Side Park along the water's edge. It was muggy but nice with the sea breeze. We came back into the ball field as I ended the race with a time of 34 minutes and 32 second time for myself!
To think a few months ago, I couldn't even run around the block, I feel I made the first accomplishment of many to come as I train for the triathalon.

NERVOUS
I have been practicing all week for the 5K run sponsored by Bridgeport Hospital that is going to take place tomorrow morning. I know I can finish it, but I am such a slow runner. I am nervous also since this is actually my first race. I dont really consider it a race because I just want to be able to complete the run before they start giving out the awards! It starts at 9am and the awards are given at 10:15. That would be pretty embarrasing to have me not finish in that time, even though I know I can, Ive been doing it all week. Mostly doing it in 40 minutes. I know that is still slow since many of the people I know in work can do a 6 minute mile. Mine comes out to be about a 13 minute mile. Can you imagine how nervous I am going to be for the triathalon! Yesterday I ran my old route which is exactly 3.1 miles and I did it in 20 minutes. It was hard since the last .5 miles is all uphill, but I got a system going counting the number of times my foot hit the squares in the newly laid sidewalks, what ever works! This morning I did a new route and I had it mapped out to be 3+ miles but when I did it, I wanted to double check Josh's mileage and it was 2.9 miles. I was really bummed. I was thinking while I was running on how not to long ago, I couldnt even run 1 mile with out stopping to rest and walked most of the way, and now I can do 3 miles without stopping. It is an accomplishment for me, but I am still nervous about putting it all together with the swim and bike. Dawn is doing something very smart that now I wished I could do. She is running a sprint triathalon in July in Colorado. I think that is going to really be a good motivator for her and also she will get the idea of how it all works together. The changing out of the wet suite, to jumping on the bike, and then the run. Oh man I am starting to get really nervous again. !!YIKES!!! I better go to bed and stop thinking about it. Good night all!

Vacation
I may be on vacation, but I walked 2.6 miles on the Daytona beach Saturday, Ran 2.6 miles Sunday, walked 2.6 miles on Monday and then ran 3.8 miles on Tues. It felt great!! So that is why you haven't seen me posting my daily workouts. I am on a running frenzy because Sunday I am doing a 5K for the hospital and I want to be able to complete it without walking and within a reasonable time frame. I am running with 2 other nurses and one of the Docs! Then off to mom's 90th birthday party!! I can't wait till Dawn comes home so we can do some training together. 107 Days till we see how well our training paid off !

Saturday run
With no mental energy to do squat, I still figured if I at least ran, it would let my mind drain of all the sadness going on inside. I took a different route, trying to look for something that maybe wasnt right in front of me. I was excited to do this because I get very bored with the same route. I ran the whole way with out stopping to walk, I kept making new goals on the route. When I got home of course I had to do a run with the car to figure out how far I had gone. I was hopeing I did a 5k but wasnt optomistic because I didnt have to walk any of the route. Well it ended up being 2.3 miles. but I am happy that I was able to do that far withoout walking, so it was an actual accomplishment for me.

Thursday slump
Off for running gain after work. did my 3.1 mile loop but getting board with it. I have to find a different route so I can do different ones and not get bored. How do people run on a treadmill?? I would definately feel like a mouse on a wheel!! Have a great day off!

wimped!
Since my body definately hurt today, I was just going to ride for an hour at the gym. I got there and pedaled away, using the random cycle, and it was a little tough with my aching legs. I ended up doing 30 minutes and did 8 miles. Home for the night to try to get some studying in for my certification test that I have to do in the next 3 months on top of this training!!!

45 is my lucky number

After an unwanted night off from the pool, thanks to the person who got sick and they had to close the pool down for the night, I decided I needed to do two things today, I got home from work, took a quick run, which took me 45 minutes to do my 3.1 mile, got home, stretched, ate a quick bite to eat, some chicken for the protein, then went to the pool and did a mile swim in 45 minutes. Its getting a little easier if I can just keep doing it every day :)
Happy Mothers Day to all
First off this post is late, but at least I exercised on my day!! Happy Mothers day to all! After getting flowers for two very important people in my life, my own mom and Ebba, I couldnt decide if I wanted to go to the gym, or take a run, so of course my brilliant Dana says, why don't you run to the gym and then bike there. So I thought to myself, what a good idea! DAAA So off I went a running. Since the gym is really right down the street, I took the scenic route. When I got to the gym, I road for a half hour. did 7 miles, then was going to walk home, but decided to run home as well. First I stretched though after my bike ride, because that's what Dawn says to do, so I did. I ended up running home and then of course took my car out to clock the mileage and it was 1 mile to the gym and 1 mile back and then with the half hour bike, it took me a total time of 1 hour exercise. I know this is lame to most athletes but to this old lady, it wasnt bad. Good thing I still have 3 months training!! Does anyone know something I could wear that would track my mileage?

My body hurts:(
My body really hurt this morning, I was sore between my shoulder blades as I started my day at work. Luckily it quickly felt better as the day went on, so when I got out of work at 3:30pm, I was to do a 1/2 hour run and then back to the pool in the evening. I had an important date with Dominique at the watering hole to pick up our shirts for Cinco De Mayo so when I got home from work I called her and said I would meet her at around 5:15p after I did my run. So off I went a running. I did about 3 miles, ended up at the watering hole on time and sat with her and had a great evening of chatting. Needless to say, we didnt get our shirts because Sergio wasn't there, and second off I never made it to the pool. All in all my run was actually quite painful since I was tired and my body still ached a little from last nights swim, so instead of swimming at the pool, I ended up swimming in my Margarita's!!!

Total time 45 minutes
Total distance: Aprox 3 miles

50 laps in 36 minutes
I was kicking ass again tonight in the pool if I must say so my self!! Yes pat my own back!lol. But seriously folks, it felt good. I worked 12 hours then went home, grabbed my bag and off to the pool I went. I did the workout that was planned for me which was a total of 50 laps which equals 1500 yards and I did it in 36 minutes. I only stopped for the alotted time of a 20 sec rest and a 15 sec rest between two of the drills. I am really working my upper body in these drills since my lower body is worked so much in the runs and bike rides. I am not sure if I am looking forward to tomorrow's run and swim. When will I stop at Acapolcos to get my Cinco de Mayo tshirts for Thurs.?? I will let you know the answer tomorrow :)

New bicycle
Got a new bike today. Thanks Donna !! I will think of all you went through when I ride it and all you have already over come and the fight that you continue to endure!. I will be using her bike as I bike my ass off in The Nations Triathalon in Sept. But before I got the bike, I did go to the gym and bike hard for an hour with rpm of 88-99, mostly around 90-94. I rode 14 miles in that hour. I know I have to speed it up a bit but I am working on it and it is getting easier every time I ride. Overall the training is actually getting better and I am more excited and motivated to do something everyday. It is not as much of a chore as it was in the beginning, although I must say, yesterday while spending the afternoon with my mom and sisters, I kept getting this urge to do a little running on those country roads. I didn't though, but it kept knawing at me. Well when I got home and found my schedule, yesterday wasnt just a easy continuous swim, I was suppose to do some running as well. OOPS!! I knew I had that urge for a reason. Well I will have to try to make it up another day. Still overall a great weekend. I think with the weather getting warmer, it makes me feel like I have more energy.
